Collège François Villon
On the occasion of the European Day of Languages, which takes place on September 26 at the initiative of the Council of Europe and Europe Direct Allier, an information center certified by the European Union, François Villon middle school took part again in the Eurodictée (Eurodictation).
As it has been done every year since 2017, Europe Direct Allier and the Allier Departmental Council have offered short texts in English, German, Spanish, and Italian about the EU, aimed at 9th-grade students (equivalent of “3ème” in France), and created with the help of volunteer teachers and regional education inspectors (IPR).
This year, the texts insisted on the European values of solidarity, tolerance, freedom, equality, and respect, despite the numerous languages, cultures, religions and customs that are shared among the 450 million people who live within the EU.
The dictation is expected to be read under the usual dictation conditions specific to each school and teacher. An adapted version (with fill-in-the-blanks or shortened text) is also provided for neurodivergent students.
Participating students, as well as their schools, receive symbolic rewards. Last year, they included a map of the EU with its members and a timeline with its historical landmarks and significant political decisions, as well as a quiz that can be folded into an origami.
Our school will use the #ErasmusDays as a throwback to our participation to the Eurodictée.
