Campus Compass

What?

The University of Malta prides itself on a vibrant, diverse, and international student community.

In fact, one in four students, or 25% of the student body, comes from abroad, representing over 136 different nationalities.

This rich mix of cultures, perspectives, and experiences creates a truly global learning environment, fostering cross-cultural connections and preparing students to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.

Why?

To celebrate the international community at the University of Malta, we are launching the Campus Compass, a monument that showcases the diverse backgrounds of our students through symbolic designs that enrich the pole.

Vuċi Kollettiva, ISA (International Students Association) and HOASA (History of Art Student Association) came together to create one-of-a-kind structure that highlights the diversity of our campus, serving as a symbol of unity, inclusion and shared identity. The project was made possible through cross-departmental collaboration and a series of workshops where students and staff from different backgrounds joined forces to bring this vision to life.

This landmark stands as a visual testament to the connections and shared experiences that make UM truly international.

This project is proudly supported by various academic, administrative and technical entities of the University of Malta who lent their support to the students towards the realisation of this project. The project is co-funded through the Erasmus+ Programme.

When?

On Wednesday 15 October 2025, between 12:30 and 13:30.
Short interventions will be followed by refreshments and a band will be providing a festive atmoshphere.

Where?

UM Library Terrace, between the UM Library and the Student Recruitment Office.
