Teachers, school staff, students, parents, and representatives of the local community will come together to prepare healthy recipes using vegetables and herbs from our school garden, as well as fresh produce sourced from local farmers’ markets and the home gardens of parents.
A professional chef—also a parent at the school—will collaborate with the school cook to design recipes that creatively blend traditional Mediterranean cuisine with contemporary culinary approaches, aiming to make the dishes both nutritious and appealing to children. The objective is to educate students on the importance of healthy eating habits, with an emphasis on local, seasonal products and the increased consumption of fruits and vegetables.
Additionally, another parent will showcase products made in their family-owned business using fresh fruit and no added sugar. They will encourage students to experiment with these products, transforming them into nutritious and flavorful snack options.
All participants will have the opportunity to explore the progress of our Erasmus+ project through educational displays that will be set up at the school. They will also be guided through the school’s vegetable garden, composting station, and rainwater collection system.
Our initiative promotes the idea of producing, as much as possible, our own food using sustainable practices—growing our produce, fertilizing with our own compost, and watering with collected rainwater.
A representative from the Department of Early Childhood Education at the University of Thessaly will attend the event to help disseminate our project outcomes and recommendations to future educators.
A municipal representative will receive a proposal prepared by the students for the creation of public community gardens in our city, designed to be accessible to all residents.
Lastly, a journalist from the local press will document the event and support the dissemination of its messages and goals within the broader community.
