Visual Storytelling and Composition: One Story, Multiple Perspectives
Basement
Cara Dušana 23, Belgrade, Serbia
Tehnička škola "Drvo art"
This intensive and dynamic workshop is designed as a direct continuation of the regular computer graphics and multimedia curriculum. Right before the visiting lecturer’s arrival, fourth-year students will complete the basic process of comic book creation. Marta Miquel i Capell’s workshop builds upon this foundation, focusing on advanced concepts of visual composition, storytelling, and point-of-view shifts.
The instructional format combines inspiring introductory presentations with intensive hands-on practice. Through experimentation and rapid sketching, students will explore how shot selection and viewing angles dramatically transform the atmosphere and narrative impact of a story.
WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES
01 Developing Visual Storytelling Skills: Understanding how narrative is conveyed through imagery and sequence.
02 Mastering Composition and Visual Perspectives: Exploring the impact of different camera shots and angles (close-ups, wide shots, low/high angles) on the viewer’s emotions and perception.
03 Fostering Creative Flexibility: Enabling students to engage in rapid visual thinking and idea generation (rapid sketching) without the constraint of creating a polished final artwork.
PRACTICAL EXERCISE (MICRO-STORY THROUGH DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES)
Participants will be tasked with representing a single, extremely simple micro-story through completely different visual perspectives and frame compositions. The emphasis is placed on speed, compositional rhythm, and the narrative impact of individual frames within a comic sequence.
