Salzburg State Parliament (Salzburger Landtag)
The Salzburger Jugendlandtag (Salzburg Youth Parliament) is a structured participation format for about 50 young people aged 16 to 20, who live, work or go to school in the Austrian federal state of Salzburg. Participants are drwan by lot from the public residential register, with special attention to ensure broad social diversity in terms of place of residence, age, gender, educational background and socio-economic status. As part of a proposal weekend, the young people engage intensively with youth-related political issues in a setting modelled on the work of parliamentary committees. Supported by experienced facilitators and experts in the field, they develop concrete political proposals, which are subsequently presented, debated and adopted during the Youth Parliament plenary. The results are then forwarded as recommendations to the state parliament and the state government and integrated into parliamentary processes. The project enables an in-depth engagement with the European Youth Goals and actively contributes to the implementation of the EU Youth Dialogue at regional level.
