Reading Across Borders, Growing Through Stories

ErasmusDays 2026 | Learning and Growing – Skills for Tomorrow

As part of ErasmusDays 2026, our 7th-grade students will embark on a literary journey across Europe through the English version of Heidi, the timeless classic written by Swiss author Johanna Spyri.

Loved by generations of readers and audiences across Europe and beyond, Heidi offers a wonderful opportunity to discover European literary heritage while developing English reading and comprehension skills.

Through shared reading sessions, students will explore the beautiful landscapes of the Swiss Alps and discover universal values such as friendship, kindness, empathy, generosity, respect for differences and love for nature.

Beyond reading a story, our young learners will reflect on how literature connects people from different countries, languages and cultures.

This activity aims to develop essential skills for tomorrow, including:

Language and literacy: Improving English vocabulary, reading fluency and comprehension.

Cultural awareness: Discovering Swiss literature and Europe’s shared cultural heritage.

Empathy and inclusion: Understanding different perspectives, emotions and life experiences.

Environmental awareness: Appreciating nature and sustainable ways of living.

Critical thinking: Reflecting on characters’ decisions, relationships and values.

By reading the same story that has inspired generations across Europe, our students will discover that stories can cross borders, connect cultures and bring people closer together.

One Story. Many Cultures. Shared Values. One Europe! 💙💛

Different languages, shared stories, endless possibilities.
