From our School Garden to the Kitchen. Erasmus meets Rievkooche!
Our school garden is a place where learning, teamwork and sustainability come together. A few months ago, our pupils prepared garden beds and planted potatoes. Since then, they have been taking care of the plants, watching them grow and learning how much time, patience and effort it takes to produce food.
On 12 October 2026, the time has finally come: we will harvest our potatoes!
But the journey does not end there. In the days following the harvest, the potatoes will make their way from our school garden to our school kitchen. During our Home Economics lessons, the pupils will turn the freshly harvested potatoes into delicious German potato pancakes (Reibekuchen, dialect: Rievkooche).
Finally, the best part: pupils and teachers will sit together and enjoy the fruits of their hard work.
This project shows how much can grow from a simple potato – not only food, but also teamwork, responsibility, culture, sustainability and the joy of learning together. It is a wonderful example of how practical, hands-on activities can connect learning with everyday life.
