Different Traditions, Shared Values (European Book of Traditions – Exploring European customs through the eyes of young Europeans)

The event builds on authentic cooperation with schools in Spain, Sweden, France, Italy and Slovakia. Through exploring European traditions and customs, students discover that although cultural practices differ across countries, many of the values behind them are shared. The project promotes intercultural understanding, respect for diversity and a sense of European belonging.
In the weeks preceding Erasmus Days, students from Years 6–9 will register for mixed-age teams, creating opportunities for collaboration across year groups and strengthening a sense of school community.
Erasmus Days will begin with a European Traditions Marketplace, where teams will explore a variety of European traditions and customs and select one tradition to investigate further. Through interactive displays and visual materials, students will discover traditions from different parts of Europe and make their own informed choice.
Working in teams, students will research the chosen tradition, its origins, significance and contemporary form. They will reflect on the values represented by the tradition, compare it with similar customs in Czechia, and prepare contributions for the European Book of Traditions.
Where feasible, the project will incorporate online collaboration with schools in partner countries, enabling students to gain authentic insights into local traditions and cultural practices.
The final outputs will include:
• chapters for the European Book of Traditions created by student teams,
• a digital version of the book,
• a school exhibition presenting selected traditions and the values associated with them,
• multimedia outputs such as videos, podcasts, quizzes and infographics.
The project culminates in a shared reflection on the question:
What makes us different and what brings us together as Europeans?
