Beyond Borders: The Art of New Beginnings
An exhibition of creativity discovered through new beginnings
Life sometimes leads us to places we never imagined. When Ukrainian families arrived in Romania, they brought with them not only memories and experiences but also the strength to continue building everyday life.
For many, creativity became part of that new beginning. Some picked up a paintbrush simply to keep their hands busy, to find moments of calm, or to express what words could not. Others discovered, perhaps for the first time, a passion and talent that had always been there, waiting for the right moment to emerge.
The paintings in this exhibition are not illustrations of loss. They are expressions of life as it is lived today—filled with colour, curiosity, imagination, and the quiet courage of beginning again. Many of the works are rich in bright colours, reflecting an instinctive search for light, beauty, and energy. Colour becomes more than an artistic choice; it becomes a language of vitality, optimism, and connection.
Presented during Erasmus Days 2026, celebrating ten years of Erasmus+, Beyond Borders: The Art of New Beginnings reflects the values of cultural exchange, lifelong learning, and inclusion. It reminds us that every new environment offers opportunities not only to adapt but also to discover new abilities, build meaningful connections, and contribute to the communities we become part of.
This exhibition invites visitors to see the artists not through the circumstances that brought them to Romania, but through what they have created here. Their works speak of resilience without needing to explain it, of belonging without forgetting their roots, and of the remarkable human capacity to discover new possibilities at every stage of life.
Every canvas is a reminder that new beginnings are not only about starting over—they are about uncovering parts of ourselves we never knew existed.
