Other event

The event will promote the practical application of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) strategies across classes attended by students with complex communication needs, including non-speaking students, at Centrul Școlar de Educație Incluzivă Buzău.
The initiative builds on the experience gained by Alexandra Gabriela Băicoianu, Dan Gabriel Pioară and Corina Nica during the Erasmus+ mobility held in Nuremberg, Germany, from 4 to 8 May 2026, within the project “Edu Zone. Inclusive communication for all”.
Dissemination activities have already introduced teachers to the principles of AAC, its role in supporting communication and practical ways to use pictograms and visual supports. This event will encourage the application of these strategies in everyday classroom practice.
We propose that all classes with non-speaking students dedicate one lesson to practising AAC techniques, using pictograms, communication boards and other visual supports adapted to individual needs. Activities will focus primarily on communicating basic needs, such as requesting water, using the toilet, asking for help or taking a break. Teachers will also integrate these supports into different educational activities, helping students make choices, express preferences and participate in classroom interactions.
The initiative will encourage the continued use of AAC beyond the dedicated lesson, strengthening inclusive teaching and providing students with accessible ways to communicate and participate in daily school life.
