Ovidius Highschool

Presentation

As part of Erasmus Days 2026, and as preparation for the future Erasmus partnerships, our high school will organise an interactive educational activity for 10th-grade students, inspired by the Algae Curriculum, an interdisciplinary approach connecting science, innovation and environmental sustainability.

Through hands-on experiments, demonstrations and collaborative challenges, students will explore the fascinating world of microalgae and macroalgae, with particular attention to the biodiversity of the Romanian Black Sea coast.

The activity will introduce key topics from the curriculum, including algal biodiversity and microscopy, natural pigment extraction, microalgae cultivation, ecological paper and biomaterials, biofuels, sustainable food, and the role of algae in the blue bioeconomy. Students will also discover emerging applications of algae in agriculture and sustainable textiles as potential alternatives to resource-intensive production systems.

Working in teams, participants will investigate how algal biomass can be transformed into valuable products while applying principles of circular economy, responsible consumption and resource efficiency.

The event will promote STEM education, inquiry-based learning, creativity and environmental responsibility, encouraging students to connect scientific knowledge with real-world sustainability challenges.

Aligned with GreenComp, the European Green Deal and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the activity will highlight the importance of European cooperation in developing innovative solutions for a greener and more sustainable future.
