“Climate Smart, Future Ready: Climate Literacy Education” is an educational activity organized for 4th-grade students at Şehit Ömer Sönmez Primary School within the framework of ErasmusDays 2026 and its theme “Skills for the Future.” The event aims to develop students’ climate literacy, raise their awareness of climate change, and encourage them to take an active role in building a more sustainable future.
The 40-minute interactive session will be delivered by Dr. Mümine Güher Özercan, an educator who conducts academic research in the fields of environmental and climate literacy and has previous experience in providing educational activities for students in these areas.
During the session, students will explore climate change, its causes, and its consequences through age-appropriate examples and interactive activities. They will also learn about waste reduction, recycling, responsible consumption, energy and water conservation, and environmentally friendly choices that can be incorporated into their daily lives.
Rather than focusing solely on the transfer of environmental knowledge, the activity will encourage students to think critically, ask questions, discuss ideas, and develop possible solutions. In this way, the event aims to support future-oriented skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, environmental responsibility, collaboration, and sustainable decision-making.
Linked to the Erasmus+ priorities of environmental sustainability and green transition, the activity aims to help students recognize that their individual choices can contribute to collective change. At the end of the session, students will make their own “Green Promise” by choosing one environmentally responsible action that they commit to incorporating into their daily lives.
