Food becomes a universal language through which students can discover and share European cultures while showcasing the personal, social and professional skills developed through Erasmus+ mobility experiences. The event will go beyond a simple tasting of international dishes, offering students the opportunity to present how mobility experiences help them learn, exchange perspectives, become more independent and develop language, intercultural, digital, social and green skills.
A dedicated focus on sustainability will highlight responsible food choices, the reduction of food waste and plastic use, the reuse of food scraps, and the value of local and seasonal products. Students will also explore how to design sustainable menus and make conscious choices about ingredients and quantities.
As part of the ErasmusDays event, a European Food Fair will be organised in the school. The fair will be arranged in different stands, each dedicated to some of the European countries visited by the students during their Erasmus+ mobility experiences. Students will prepare and present small portions or samples of traditional dishes from these countries and will welcome visitors at their stands.
Each stand will include information materials, posters, photographs and/or digital presentations illustrating the country, the dish presented and its historical, cultural and social significance. Students will explain to visitors the origins of the food, the traditions associated with it and what they discovered about the culture of the country during their mobility experience. They will therefore act as cultural ambassadors, sharing not only the food itself but also the personal and educational experiences connected to their Erasmus+ mobility.
The fair will be open to the school community, families and schools from the local area that have not yet participated in the Erasmus+ programme. Visiting students and teachers will be able to move freely between the different stands, taste the food, ask questions and interact directly with the Erasmus+ participants. Particular attention will be given to involving students who have not yet taken part in a mobility experience, giving them the opportunity to discover Erasmus+ through the first-hand experiences of their peers.
Where possible, the food will be presented using reusable or recyclable materials, with careful attention to portion sizes in order to minimise food waste. Students will also highlight the use of local and seasonal ingredients and present practical examples of how traditional European dishes can be adapted to more sustainable food choices.
Through food, culture and mobility, the event will connect Europe, mobility, culture, skills, sustainability and the future, while involving the school community, local schools and families. It will promote intercultural dialogue, active citizenship and sustainable lifestyles, while encouraging more students and schools to discover and engage with the opportunities offered by Erasmus+.
