From Exchange to Impact: Fencing finds a Home at Beirut Arab University

Every journey abroad holds the promise of discovery. For Salwa Tannir, one of our PhD students at Beirut Arab University (BAU), the ERASMUS+ exchange programme to the University of Santiago de Compostela in Spain was more than an academic experience; it was life-changing.
While immersing herself in a new culture and broadening her horizons, she stumbled upon an activity she had never tried before: fencing. With curiosity and courage, she picked up the sword, embraced the challenge, and discovered a new passion.
But her story did not end in Spain. Upon returning to Lebanon, she carried this newfound passion back to BAU, where she introduced fencing to her peers. Today, thanks to her initiative, fencing has become part of BAU Student Life, opening doors for many students to explore, engage, and grow through this exciting sport.
This is the true spirit of ERASMUS+; empowering students to explore, learn, and bring back experiences that enrich their universities and communities.
